The first Graduate School of Tourism in Asia, beginning with the establishment of an Integrated Tourism Management Study Center in 2009 by the vision of Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of the National Institute of Development Administration and co-founders, consisting of Professor Dr. Suwimon Wongwanich, Mr. Pradech Phayakvichien, and Associate Professor Dr. Therdchai Choibamroong. Later on, 9 January 2013, Council of National Institute of Development Administration has unanimously resolved to form the "Graduate School of Tourism Management," in order to be an organization with academic excellence in Tourism and Hospitality, and a Think-Tank on integrated Tourism and Hospitality policy, planning, development, and management, led by Associate Professor Dr. Therdchai Choibamroong, the first Dean.
Graduate School of Tourism Management operates teaching and learning at the graduate level, conducts research and training, as well as coordinates tourism cooperation at the local, national, regional and international levels.
Throughout the period, Graduate School of Tourism Management has acted as an important mechanism in driving the national Tourism development, including management to sustainable integrated tourism development. In2018, GSTM has achieved Thailand-first TedQual certified programmes from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
